"The majority of the 'great religions' which have sought union with God in prayer have also pointed out ways to achieve it. Just as the Catholic Church rejects nothing of what is true and holy in these religions, neither should these ways be rejected out of hand simply because they are not Christian. On the contrary, one can take from them what is useful so long as the Christian conception of prayer, its logic and requirements are never obscured. It is within the context of all of this that these bits and pieces should be taken up and expressed anew…" - Excerpt from "Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church on some aspects of Christian Meditation" by Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI)

Pope John Paul II Quote

"Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth--in a word to know himself--so that by knowing and loving God, we may also come to the fullness of truth about ourselves."

FYI, you have misrepresented Pope John Paul II and the teaching of the Catholic Church. A PONTIFICAL DOCUMENT signed by Pope John Paul II and the Cardinal Ratzinger (the current POPE BENEDICT XVI) warns Catholics that Yoga is part of NEW AGE RELIGION: the document is titled 'A reflection on the New Age'. It issues a clear warning to Catholics and all Christians that such practices are FRAUGHT WITH DANGER. Behind the postures in Yoga is an UTTERLY PAGAN view of the universe and the human person. The postures flow out of HINDUISM in precisely the same way that the Rosary and Stations of the Cross have flowed out of Catholicism. In fact, they are designed to effect physiological changes in the body to prepare it to enter altered states of consciousness to evoke pantheistic powers and attain unity with the Hindu god. Yoga is an INTRINSIC RELIGIOUS PRACTICE of a religion that worships false gods and directly violates the First Commandment. How DARE you promote this as 'Christian'!

To the previous post, you know so little about this person yet you are judging them? What gives you the right? Only God shall judge! If the person finds contintment in doing yoga and is happy with their faith, let them be. In no way is this person harming you. I hope you can find happiness (hint: it does not come from hate).

Dear Mr Pope.. have you tried yoga?
Hatha yoga is a form of excercise for the body and brain.not witchcraft or anything like that.

and anything that helps to keep someone healthlier is not a bad thing.

please do not knock what you may not have tried.

and it is a better way of birth control than your church recommend.

I have to say your church
As it appears other churches. are more united. modern and open minded

76 yr old practiser of yoga. and believer in God
